This process creates a reflex contraction in the muscle. When the needle is first inserted, a contraction occurs in the muscle and it grasps the needle. The muscle then lengthens, relaxes and the needle is easily removed. Usually one needle is used during the procedure, but two or three needles can be used if necessary. Electric current can also be given to the needles to increase relaxation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>IMS technique<\/strong>, while stimulating muscle reflexes (spinal reflexes), creates small tears in the cell walls of muscle fibers. These micro-injuries initiate an inflammatory process known as the Type 2 pain response.
